The piece in detail

What is woven into it
The palette is cloud grey, copper and maroon, with the mekhela in lilac.
The sador is scattered with round maroon flowers, each set on a small leafy medallion of copper-toned zari. Its edge carries a lilac border of copper rings, each holding a maroon dot, and its end is worked in grey bands between copper stripes, carrying copper vines of small maroon teardrops and florets, and finishes in maroon tassels.
The mekhela's lower half is covered in a copper-toned zari lattice of arched cells, a small maroon diamond at the heart of each, framed above by rows of maroon dots.

Occasion & styling
A set for weddings and receptions, festivals, engagement ceremonies, anniversaries and formal evenings. Wear it with the matching lilac-grey blouse, its sleeves edged in copper, as shown, or a maroon silk blouse to bring the darker accents forward.
Copper-toned zari goes well with rose gold, antique gold and ruby or garnet tones, and a Junbiri or Dugdugi sits well against the grey. Drape the sador across the front so its copper border runs diagonally, and let the tasselled end fall behind the shoulder.
How to wear a mekhela sador
The mekhela goes on first: step into it, draw it up to the waist, fold the pleats at the front and tuck them in. Then the sador: one end tucked in at the waist, taken round, and the rest carried across the front and over the left shoulder.
The film ends on the gold worn with it: the pendant, the ring, the earrings and the cuff.
The object
The sador keeps to a scatter of round flowers and leaves the weight of the pattern to the mekhela, copper lattice over its whole lower half.

Care
- Dry clean only, and tell the cleaner it is Paat with zari.
- Never machine-wash it or leave it to soak: zari can dull when it gets damp.
- Press it on the reverse at a low setting, with a cotton cloth between the iron and the copper-toned zari.
- Fold it in muslin or cotton, never plastic, away from damp and direct sun, and refold it along new lines every few months.
- Keep perfume and deodorant off the cloth.
