The piece in detail

On a white display bust against a deep red backdrop: a gold rhombus set with square red stones on the diagonal, under a three-stone crown and fringed with gold and red bead drops, hanging from twisted strands of bright red seed beads gathered with gold beads. The earrings are the same rhombus, smaller.

What is worked into it

The pendant is a rhombus, a square stood on its point, set with square red stones on the diagonal, five across at the widest, in a gold frame with a beaded edge. Above it sits a crown of three stones, a teardrop between two leaves, and along its two lower edges hangs a fringe of small gold beads, each tipped with a red one.

Several fine strands of bright red seed beads make the necklace, loosely twisted and gathered at intervals by gold-finished silver beads, with a single larger red bead high on each side and a row of gold beads where the strands meet the pendant.

The earrings are the same rhombus and crown, smaller, with nine stones each and the same fringe.

Occasion & styling

For a day function, a dinner or a wedding as a guest. The bright red strands sit well on ivory, gold-beige or green, with a Paat mekhela sador, a plain saree or a kurta.

The pendant's straight edges suit a V or a square neckline.

Care

  • Lay it flat in a soft pouch or a lined box so the strands do not knot, away from damp and direct sun.
  • Put on perfume, cream and hairspray first and let them dry, and take the set off to bathe, swim, exercise or sleep.
  • Wipe it with a soft dry cloth only: no jewellery dip, no ultrasonic cleaner, nothing abrasive, because the gold is a thin layer over silver.
  • Keep it away from heat, a hairdryer or a car left in the sun, because the pendant is filled with lac, which softens at 65 to 70 °C.
  • Handle the stones and the bead drops gently and keep them from catching on cloth.
