Silk Mark certified
- Material & craftsmanship
- Tussar silk in a soft golden cream, with a faint slub in the yarn and a crisp, graceful fall. The rani pink is an extra weft woven in with the cloth: the plain ground runs on unbroken beneath every paisley, and on the back the motif yarn shows as short thread ends.
- What arrives
- 1 mekhela + 1 sador + 1 matching unstitched blouse piece
The piece in detail

What is woven into it
The heart of this set is the kalka, the paisley, woven tall in rani pink. A row of them stands across the lower half of the mekhela, each filled with small flowers and leaves and flecked with gold, above a broad pink border of diamonds with a small flower in each. Above the paisleys the mekhela is scattered with small flower buti, some pink and some gold.
Pink dots and small gold buti are scattered over the sador's golden-cream body, a fine pink line runs along its edge, and the end closes in pink stripes of different widths with fine gold lines between them, finished with small tassels on twisted cords.

Occasion & styling
Rani pink on golden cream: for a wedding where you are a guest, a mehendi or sangeet, pujas, housewarmings and family celebrations. It is shown with a rani pink blouse that picks up the paisleys; a golden-cream blouse gives a softer look.
Gold sits well against the pink: a Junbiri or Dugdugi, or for daytime a slim gold chain like the one shown. Pleat the sador narrow over the shoulder so the paisleys on the mekhela stay in view.
How to wear a mekhela sador
The mekhela goes on first: step into it, draw it up to the waist, fold the pleats at the front and tuck them in. Then the sador: one end tucked in at the waist, taken round, and the rest carried across the front and over the left shoulder.
The film ends on the gold worn with it: the pendant, the ring, the earrings and the cuff.
The object
The pattern lives in the mekhela — tall paisleys over a deep border of diamonds — while the sador is kept light: dots, small buti, a striped end and tassels.

Care
- Dry clean only, and tell the cleaner it is Tussar with rani pink motifs.
- Never machine-wash it or leave it to soak: water can carry the pink out of the motifs and into the pale ground, and it does not come back out.
- Press it on the reverse at a low setting, with a cotton cloth between the iron and the motifs.
- Fold it in muslin or cotton, never plastic, away from damp and out of direct sun, which fades bright colour, and refold it along new lines every few months.
- Keep perfume and deodorant off the cloth.
