Gamusa weaving

Gamusa weaving has been part of Ratan Baishya's family life ever since he was a child. As he grew up, that passion led him to take up the craft himself: the Assamese gamusa. He loves working intricate designs into every piece. The Paat and Muga variants are the ones he most enjoys weaving.

Hanging from the shoulders over a black blouse and a pale-blue sador, both ends falling down the front with the hands crossed over them at the waist, a silver ring on one finger. The white cloth is checked in fine gold lines, with red hat-shaped japi on broad gold bands, and each end is a dense red panel of birds and paisleys.
